Today is Endangered Species Day, a day to encourage individuals to take action to protect endangered species.
Asian elephants and African forest elephants are both critically endangered, and African savanna elephants are endangered. Estimates vary, but research suggests that the Asian elephant population has experienced a 90% decline in the past 100 years, and there has been a 75% decline for African elephants.
Since 2018, The Sanctuary has worked with international partners to support elephants living in Asia and Africa. Designated funding is directed to organizations working to study and protect wild elephants, provide solutions, and mitigate threats to their habitats. Let us know in the comments what you are doing to help endangered species!
