The Sanctuary’s 12-week Internship Program is focused on providing experiential learning opportunities to individuals seeking to understand, develop, and establish careers in the fields of elephant care and conservation. Interns work closely with Caregivers as well as Education Staff for a multi-departmental learning experience.

Position Purpose:
The Associate Director of Elephant Health & Wellness will lead and coordinate elephant health services, guide the elephant health care team, and expand program with the development of a health care program for bulls as they age. The Associate Director in collaboration with the Elephant Husbandry team ,oversees initiatives and full life care and wellness for all elephants living at The Elephant Sanctuary.
This position ensures compliance with regulatory standards, oversees program development, leads and coordinates the veterinary team and partners providing daily health care and wellness support for the elephants. This position plays a prominent role in developing and sustaining collaborative animal health and wellness and scientific partnerships. This position leads scientific inquiry, processes, and plays a key role in developing solutions and best practices that support the elephants on their life-long journey. The position provides support in promoting a diverse and inclusive workplace culture at The Sanctuary.
The Associate Director works directly with the CEO (Chief Executive Officer), in consultation from the DVC (Director of Veterinary Care) and in partnership with Senior Managers and department directors/leaders, to achieve the The Sanctuary’s mission and the strategic objectives with relevance to elephant care.

The Resource Development Manager works closely with CEO and Senior Management to create and implement a comprehensive resource development plan to meet the goals of the organization. She/he will build successful giving programs including Major Gifts, Planned Giving, Grant Writing, and Communications. This broad effort includes building and maintaining positive long-lasting relationships with individuals, foundations, and corporate donors throughout the United States and Globally.
The Resource Development Manager works closely with the Communications and Marketing Team and Donor Services in creating, implementing, measuring, and evaluating the success of all messaging, marketing and fundraising.

Intern (Paid Position)
INTERNSHIP TERM: 08/28/23 – 11/17/23
POSITION SUMMARY:
This twelve-week Internship is focused on providing experiential learning opportunities to individuals seeking to understand, develop and establish careers in the fields of elephant care and conservation. Interns work closely with Caregivers as well as Education, Development, and Communications staff for a multi-departmental learning experience. This internship provides an individual with the opportunity to gain work experience at an elephant sanctuary accredited by the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries (GFAS) and certified by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA).
The Elephant Sanctuary practices protected contact/positive reinforcement management of the elephants. Interns will not have free contact interaction with elephants.
Acceptance into internship program does NOT guarantee future employment at The Sanctuary.
Housing and hourly compensation are provided.
