Artie Explores Additional 60 Acres

With continued adaptations to our facilities and these sprawling 3,060 acres in Hohenwald, Tennessee, while the bull barns are being raised for Artie and future resident Tonka, an extra 60 acres have been successfully incorporated into Artie's current habitat at the Elephant Health Care Center!

Throughout late summer, the team dedicated their efforts to perfecting this expansive area. This included guaranteeing the availability of multiple fresh water sources and carefully grading hills to ensure effortless roaming for both Artie and potential future elephants. On Artie's first day with access to the space, dubbed "Sleepy Hollow," he sauntered out into the habitat with no hesitation and quickly disappeared beyond view off into the trees to forage. Staff have observed him fully embracing this opportunity, exploring new areas day and night, and relishing the abundance of additional pine trees as delectable snacks!

While Artie continues his exploration of his newest habitat space, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to our generous donors and supporters, all of whom have played a crucial role in creating the future residence for Artie and African male Tonka. The construction of two top-tier bull elephant barns and adjacent habitats is advancing impressively! The interior steel fencing within the barn has been completed, and essential in-floor infrastructure elements, including trench drains, have been successfully installed. We are so excited to continue sharing updates with you, our partners in building this new home for our bulls, which will transform the individualized care we can provide for them.
