Asian elephant Billie, the oldest elephant at The Sanctuary, hits her milestone 60th birthday on February 9th! Billie is well beyond the average life expectancy for an elephant in captivity, and she continues to surprise Sanctuary Staff daily with her adventurous nature, intelligence, and willingness to participate in her own care.
Billie was born in India in 1962, separated from her family, and shipped to the United States where she spent most of her life traveling and performing with the circus. In 2006, at the age of 44, Billie retired to The Elephant Sanctuary.
