Supporter Spotlight: Buffalo Exchange

The Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee receives generous donations and funding from individuals, families, and foundations, as well as a variety of businesses across the country who believe in our mission of providing a safe haven and individualized care for elephants. In celebration of Earth Day, Buffalo Exchange held their 25th annual country-wide $1 sale, donating 100% of the proceeds to The Elephant Sanctuary!

A pioneer in the resale fashion industry, Buffalo Exchange has been buying, selling, and trading clothing accessories since 1974 with a mission of sustainability. In the past 25 years, Buffalo Exchange has raised more than $800,000 for various environmental organizations through this $1 annual sales event — meaning more than 800,000 pieces of clothing were kept out of the landfill!

This year, on April 22, their annual sale raised over $43,000 for The Sanctuary. The funds from the sale will go directly towards providing food and care for the elephants, as well as supporting The Sanctuary's education and outreach programs. Watch their recap of the sale on Instagram!

"We're grateful to The Elephant Sanctuary for all the work they do to protect and preserve these incredible creatures," says Buffalo Exchange Vice President Rebecca Block. "Elephant conservation is important now more than ever as the crisis facing the keystone species continues to grow. We're also grateful to our customers for showing up to shop for such an important cause - their single-but-mighty dollars make an incredible impact."

The company has also kept over 18.5 million plastic bags out of the environment and raised over $925,000 for thousands of local causes through the Buffalo Exchange's Tokens for Bags® program. Instead of a single-use plastic bag, shoppers receive a 5-cent token to donate to a local non-profit with each purchase.

Thank you to Buffalo Exchange and to all who shopped at their Earth Day sale this year!
