For over ten years, our Distance Learning Programs have been a great way to connect with The Elephant Sanctuary and our elephant residents. Virtual field trip programs are customized for a variety of groups and age ranges, from across the state of Tennessee to around the globe. This is a great way to keep up with all of our new elephant arrivals!
Earlier this spring, our Education Team virtually spoke with third grade students in Knoxville, Tennessee to talk about our newest herd mate, Jana, who recently moved to The Sanctuary from Zoo Knoxville. Students learned all about elephant diets, social dynamics, behaviors, and of course, an elephant’s journey to Hohenwald. Learning about how Jana came to The Sanctuary and future plans for Edie and Tonka to join her made the experience extra exciting for students who remember visiting the three companions at the zoo! For this special occasion, students were joined in the classroom by long-time EleAmbassador, Erin C., also from Knoxville. "It was beyond rewarding looking around and seeing the looks of awe and wonder over each new elephant fact learned, in addition to smiles and giggles for each funny story or tidbit shared," says Erin. "The Sanctuary's Education Staff did a great job explaining and educating in a fun, relatable way that each child could understand."
If you are interested in learning more about Jana and all of our newest arrivals, you can visit The Sanctuary virtually too by signing up your class or community group of five or more participants for a free interactive Virtual Field Trip! Our Education Team will bring the elephants to you via Zoom or any video conferencing platform, and we have openings available through August! Learn more and schedule here. We can’t wait to share more about The Sanctuary with you this spring or summer!
