The Sanctuary welcomed veterinary professionals from across the United States this fall! As part of the Association of Zoological Veterinary Technicians (AZVT) annual conference, held in Nashville this year, 34 veterinary technicians visited The Sanctuary to learn more about our approach to elephant care and welfare.
During their visit, the group toured The Sanctuary's facilities and The Elephant Discovery Center, connected with members of our team, and had opportunities to observe some of the resident elephants.
For one visitor, the experience was particularly meaningful. Having grown up seeing Asian elephant Shirley at her former zoo and following her journey to The Sanctuary, the veterinary technician had a special connection to The Sanctuary's history.
The exchange extended beyond Hohenwald, as The Sanctuary's two veterinary technicians also attended and presented at the conference, sharing their expertise while connecting with fellow professionals and learning from presentations and discussions throughout the event.
From welcoming international elephant care professionals to exchanging ideas with veterinary technicians from across the country, these opportunities reflect The Sanctuary's commitment to collaboration, continued learning, and advancing elephant welfare through shared knowledge and experience.
