FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
August 1, 2024
Hohenwald, TN - Recognizing the critical role elephants play in their ecosystems and the urgent need to protect them, the state of Tennessee has once again helped us declare August “Elephant Awareness Month” across the state!
In addition to celebrating World Elephant Day on August 12, a worldwide event that aims to educate communities about elephants and the importance of protecting and preserving their natural habitats, we invited Tennessee Governor Bill Lee, Lewis County Mayor Jonah Keltner, and Hohenwald City Mayor Danny McKnight to sign an official proclamation declaring August as Elephant Awareness Month.
"All species of elephants are keystone species and vital to our global ecosystem. It is important for the public to be educated about the welfare of elephants and the need for wildlife conservation," the proclamation reads. It also states that "The Elephant Sanctuary is committed to improving the lives of all elephants worldwide."
We want to thank our city and state officials for making this possible once again.
