Elephants Splash in the Rain as Hurricane Helene Hits Middle Tennessee
Just like those across the state and the South, we are getting lots of rain at The Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee, located in Hohenwald, 85 miles south of Nashville. So far, we have been spared from the high winds that many others in the Southeast are facing. The elephants are safe and sound and will be spending the rainy days digging in the fresh mud. We are thinking of all those in the path of Hurricane Helene.
Asian female elephants Minnie (aged 58) and Ronnie (aged 58), known for their playful nature, eagerly made their way to the mud-filled areas close to their barn. With splashes, trumpets, and enthusiastic flapping of their ears, they took turns throwing mud around, engaging in playful interactions that highlighted the companionship they share.
