Hohenwald, TN - The Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee is excited to announce that the United States Postal Service’s First Day of Issue Dedication Ceremony for the new Forever Stamp titled Elephants will take place at The Elephant Discovery Center in Hohenwald, Tennessee, on World Elephant Day, August 12. In honor and celebration of elephants, USPS will release the new Forever Stamp, featuring digitally illustrated elephants designed by artist Rafael López.
“We are thrilled to be hosting the U.S. Postal Service, along with special guest speakers, for the Dedication Ceremony at The Elephant Discovery Center in downtown Hohenwald and will be updating our supporters virtually throughout the day,” says Janice Zeitlin, CEO of The Elephant Sanctuary.
First Day of Issue Dedication ceremonies are a way for the United States Postal Service to honor and commemorate a subject that has widespread national appeal and a significant impact or influence on the society, history, culture or environment of the American experience.
The release of the Elephants Forever Stamp provides an exciting opportunity to highlight the importance of elephants as a keystone species and to help spread awareness of the challenges they face in captivity and the wild. In addition to the unveiling, Governor Bill Lee of Tennessee granted August 12, 2022 “A Day of Recognition” in honor of The Elephant Sanctuary and our mission to provide elephants with home, herd, rest, refuge, and individualized care for life.
