Specialty License Plate Announced for Tennessee Residents!

The Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee is celebrating its 30th anniversary with exciting news for Tennesseans: the Tennessee State Legislature has approved a specialty license plate for The Elephant Sanctuary, and it is now available for preorder!

The design, inspired by both the elephants and the beauty of Tennessee, features Edie—an African female who has been a longtime Tennessee resident, previously residing at Zoo Knoxville for over 20 years before coming to The Sanctuary in 2023.

The license plate will allow drivers across the state to showcase their support for The Sanctuary and the elephants who reside here. Every plate on the road will help raise awareness for elephants and directly support The Elephant Sanctuary’s mission—the largest accredited natural-habitat refuge for African and Asian elephants in North America.

A portion of each plate sale will be donated to The Sanctuary, providing vital funding for the lifelong care of elephants retired from performance and exhibition, as well as global education and conservation efforts for elephants everywhere.

To make this license plate a reality, The Sanctuary must reach 1,000 preorders by June 15, 2026. Once the goal is met, The Sanctuary will submit all orders and artwork to the Tennessee Department of Revenue, which will produce and distribute the plates to local county clerk offices for pickup.
