In an effort to reduce food waste, global food distribution company Sysco delivered 28 pallets of un-purchased restaurant-grade produce to feed The Sanctuary's elephants. With restaurants closed around the country, Sysco has experienced a decrease in demand, and after food pantries and shelters across the state took what they could, The Sanctuary was contacted. Our Care Staff distributed produce between barns and offered what was remaining to the city of Hohenwald. Following CDC safety guidelines, Hohenwald Mayor Jonah Keltner coordinated distribution to local residents at the city courthouse!
The Sanctuary is proud to be apart of our local community and grateful to be able to play a role in reducing food waste in our state during this time.
