Governor of Tennessee Signs Proclamation, Making August 2022 Elephant Awareness Month

August 2022 is officially Elephant Awareness Month in Hohenwald, Lewis County, and throughout Tennessee!

This week, Hohenwald Mayor Danny McKnight and Lewis County Mayor Jonah Keltner joined Governor Bill Lee in signing proclamations stating that elephants are vital to our planet and are deserving of the best care possible in the wild and in human care. The proclamation also recognized The Elephant Sanctuary's 27-year history of caring for retired elephants and educating the public about the need for conservation.

As part of Elephant Awareness Month, World Elephant Day will be celebrated on August 12th both in-person at The Elephant Discovery Center and virtually. Join us for family-friendly crafts, elephant enrichment creation, and the unveiling of the U.S. Postal Service’s new Forever Stamp ‘Elephants.’ For more information, visit elephants.com/worldelephantday.
